Saluting Face

Unicode lists 🫡 Saluting Face among the faces with hands in the Smileys & Emotion group. Typical contexts are face, good, luck and ma’am. The keyword list continues with ok, respect, salute and saluting.

Worth knowing: 🫡 carries a second, informal reading. In chats it often means something other than the literal picture – our overview of double meaning emojis explains which one.

You can drop 🫡 into chats, social posts, headlines or a bio. On SmileyZone it is filed under Emotions and Feelings. Added in 2021 with Emoji 14.0, it displays correctly on every up-to-date system. Its code point is U+1FAE1.

• A single 🫡 is often enough to set the tone.
• Fits messages about face, good, luck and ma’am.
• Often seen near 🤔 Thinking Face, 🤫 Shushing Face and 🫣 Face with Peeking Eye.

The salute arrived in 2021 with Unicode 14 and was immediately used ironically online: “understood, on it” – usually about tasks nobody seriously intends to do. The military origin recedes entirely.

Note that the palm-outward salute is British, while the American version turns the palm down. Vendor designs follow different models accordingly.

• 🫡🤗 – Saluting Face plus Smiling Face with Open Hands

Easy to mix up with 🤔 Thinking Face, 🤫 Shushing Face or 🫣 Face with Peeking Eye. They sit in the same Unicode subgroup and look similar at small sizes, so it is worth checking the name before sending.
