How this works

The image is reduced to a coarse grid. For each cell the average colour is measured and the emoji whose own average colour comes closest is chosen. The colour values come from the OpenMoji artwork already used by the downloader.

Everything is computed in the browser via a canvas element. The image is neither uploaded nor stored – it never leaves your device.
