The transgender symbol joins the astronomical signs for Mars and Venus with a third, combined arm. It emerged within the trans community in the 1990s and is generally credited to Holly Boswell.

Unicode adopted it in 2020, together with the transgender flag 🏳️‍⚧️. Both are used above all for visibility and around the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Easy to mix up with ♂️ Male Sign or ♀️ Female Sign. They sit in the same Unicode subgroup and look similar at small sizes, so it is worth checking the name before sending.
