❤️ Red Heart

The default heart – love, gratitude and support, in that order of frequency.

💡 Meaning

❤️ Red Heart is the oldest and most-used heart in the set, and by a wide margin the most-sent non-face emoji worldwide. It covers romantic love, but the majority of its use is not romantic at all: thanks, solidarity, appreciation of a photo, condolences.

Because it is so common it has almost no edge to it. Sending ❤️ to a colleague after good news reads as warm, not intimate.

📱 Typical Usage

Safe in nearly every context. If you want something less loaded, the coloured hearts (🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜) carry the same warmth with less weight.

✍️ Usage Examples

  • Thank you ❤️
  • Thinking of you all ❤️

🔗 Popular Combinations

  • 🫂❤️ – Support for someone who just got bad news.
  • 🥰❤️ – The simplest and most common way to say "I love you" in a chat.
  • ❤️❣️ – Red Heart and Heart Exclamation
  • ❤️💚 – Red Heart with Green Heart

⚠️ Confusion Risk

Note that ❤ without the variation selector renders as a plain text heart on some systems, which is why the emoji version is written U+2764 U+FE0F.
