Nazar Amulet

The 🧿 Nazar Amulet emoji belongs to the everyday objects, filed by Unicode under Objects. People send it when the subject is amulet, bead, blue and charm. Further official keywords are evil-eye, nazar and talisman.

One caveat: 🧿 has a well-established second meaning in online slang. Read it in context rather than at face value – the double meaning overview has the details.

🧿 fits messaging apps, social networks and anywhere a short visual cue helps. On SmileyZone it is filed under Symbols and Signs. The character has been part of the standard since 2018 (Emoji 11.0). Its code point is U+1F9FF.

• 🧿 works as a one-character reply when amulet is the subject.
• Fits messages about amulet, bead, blue and charm.
• Often seen near 🪬 Hamsa, 🪦 Headstone and ⚱️ Funeral Urn.

The nazar amulet is meant to ward off the evil eye – an idea running through Turkey, Greece, the Middle East and Central Asia for thousands of years. The blue glass bead with its eye hangs by doorways, on rear-view mirrors and over children’s beds.

In chat it now travels far beyond that context: a charm against envy, a note of care to friends, or simply because it looks good. People who know it from its home cultures, though, read it a good deal more seriously.
