👀 Eyes

👀 Eyes is one of the most versatile reaction emojis. Sent alone it means you have noticed something interesting and are watching. It can be nosy, suspicious or excited depending on what came before it.

Very common as a lone reply to a screenshot, a hint or an announcement.

Online, the eyes mean “I see this” – and usually more: keen anticipation, or a hint that something noteworthy has been spotted. Under an ambiguous post they replace an entire comment.

On some platforms they also mark that a post is being watched without the watcher speaking up. The emoji is a good example of a sign whose meaning was negotiated almost entirely socially.
